There’s a lot to be said for earning a living while you work at home. Even so, there are times when it would be nice to rent a room for business and structure your work day in a different fashion. A break from working at home may benefit you because of something that needs doing or just to help you feel more refreshed. If any of the following applies to you, it’s time to check into options that would allow you to enjoy a co-working situation for a day or two.
1. A Change of Venue is Good for Your Creative Juices
Working in the same old setting may be comfortable, but it can also stifle your creativity. If you find that it’s getting more difficult to brainstorm ideas, a change of venue may be just what you need. It’s amazing how working in a different place can help stimulate the thought processes and add some energy to your day.
Renting temporary space will likely mean dressing up for the first time in a long time. It also means enjoying a different view out of the window and in general being able to draw on the elements that are around you. Along with providing you with a fresh outlook, you’re likely to find that returning to your home office after a few days will also be a welcome event.
2. You’d Like to Have a Meeting With a Client on Your Own Turf
While there’s always the option of seeing clients at their places of business, it would be nice to host them for a change. That’s not something you can do when your usual work space is a spare bedroom or a converted basement. Opting to rent office space for a few days, and maybe adding some conference room time to the mix, will ensure you feel free to meet with customers in space that you can temporarily call your own. If it happens to be in the business district so you can treat the client to lunch, that’s all the better.
3. Remembering How It Was to Work in a Traditional Setting
After you find local office spaces that are suitable for your purposes and settle in, you’ll begin to remember what it was like to work in that type of environment. Some of what you remember will be pleasant. You’re also likely to rediscover some of the reasons why you wanted to work from home in the first place. In both scenarios, you’ll end up realizing that it’s possible to have the best of both worlds.
4. The Potential for Human Interaction
One thing about working from home is that you don’t get the chance to interact with people. There are still phone calls, video conferences, and other online options, but it’s not the same as sitting across a desk or conference room table from someone. Even little things like exchanging pleasantries in a break room provide the opportunity for a little human interaction.
While you don’t want to give up working from home, who says you can’t rent co-working space for a few days here and there? Doing so allows you some of the face to face interaction that you can’t get at home and make it easier to appreciate the fact that telecommuting is an option.
If you’ve never leased office space for a day or a few days, give it some serious consideration. The experience could be helpful with certain types of situations and may even provide some perspective that you’ve found lacking recently.
