Bare essentials and decluttering home decor is on the rise
Minimalism is everywhere nowadays. From minimalist books, to minimalist music and minimalist podcasts, we must certainly be heading towards the maximum amount of minimalism.
Minimalist interior design icons like Marie Kondo have inspired people to do away with their belongings and live with less. Steve Jobs, famously, didn’t have furniture. Why he’d just sit on the floor. Is that really a sane way to behave? Is furniture really a ‘must have’ anymore?
Before you throw out all your furniture, consider these points first.
A mattress without a bed base can be bad feng shui
While many sleep on their mattress on the floor without a bed base or headboard, this can be considered bad feng shui. The optimal feng shui for bed positioning is to be furthest away but facing the door. The headboard should be flat against the wall. A plain mattress on the floor can also look quite ugly!
Not to mention the bed base protects you from things like creatures crawling on the ground such as rats, spiders, and many other unpleasant creatures. These vermin crawl across bedroom floors with impunity when you’re not looking, and a bed base will help to protect you from them.
If you are living without a bed frame, consider browsing bed frames from Factory Buys.
Think you can go without chairs? Think again!
Some people can live without chairs. But what if you have guests? If you bring your ninety year old grandmother over for a cup of tea and don’t have a chair for her to sit on, she’s not going to be very impressed.
If not for yourself, at least invest in a chair or two for when you have company over to your house. Granny, for one, will be most appreciative.
If you’ve got books, you most certainly do need bookshelves
Some people are minimalist about buying bookshelves, but still have heaps of books in their homes. The end result tends to be that they stack their books atop one another in big book towers. This is a terrible state of affairs.
For one thing, if you want to retrieve one of the books toward the bottom of the pile, it can be a real hassle to get it out. For a second thing, you’re basically building a Jenga tower in your very own home, and it’s only a matter of time before it collapses. For goodness sake, buy a bookshelf!
Bedside tables can be extremely handy
Keeping your phone charging on the floor, where it can be trodden on and broken, is not a good idea. The same goes for delicate bedside things like lamps and glasses. If only there was some sort of small table that went by the side of one’s bed, capable of keeping these types of things elevated and safe. Wait a minute, that table does exist! It’s called a bedside table, and if you don’t already have one, you should make a purchase as swiftly as possible.
