Freshen up the Garden
Gardening is an awesome activity to do with your kids, as they can be involved in every step of the process! From taking them to the store to pick out the flowers and plants they like to piling on the last shovelful of dirt, there’s something for your little one to help with. Gardening is also a wonderful way to get your kids some much-needed time outdoors. They’ll have a great time digging in the dirt and be so excited to show all their friends the pretty garden they created!
Tips for gardening with the kids:
- Let them pick at least one plant all on their own
- Get them a child-size shovel as to not overwhelm them
- Teach them the importance of handling the flowers with care
- Clean up with the outdoor hose so they don’t track dirt all over the home
In addition to planting flowers, you can also create fun garden accessories like hand-painted stones or cement feet and handprints to add sentimental value.
Create Custom Wall Art
Letting your kiddos get creative with custom wall art is such a blast! There are so many easy methods for creating cool-looking art that is great for children of all ages! Some of our favorites include:
Acrylic Pour
The acrylic pour is an easy painting method where you simply fill a cup with paint, place it on the canvas, remove it, and let it pour over the canvas creating a fun, completely original design. Let your child pick the colors and hang them in their room when it’s finished! It can get messy, so make sure to cover your work surface in plastic or trash bags.
Handprints
Creating handprint art is super easy. Simply paint your and your kid’s hands in whatever color paint you want and stamp them on the canvas in a fun design. You can even get the family dog involved by including their paw prints! Talk about a truly full-family activity.
Collage
A collage is another easy way to create awesome unique wall art. Simply source different materials like leather, linen, tissue paper, magazine clippings, etc. Let your young one choose the pattern and glue the various pieces onto the canvas!
Alphabetize or Color Coordinate your Bookshelf
This next one is an awesome activity for very young children. You can have them help you alphabetize, or color coordinates a bookshelf as a fun indoor activity. This not only allows them to feel helpful in making the home a more organized and pretty space, but you’ll be able to work on their ABCs and colors in an exciting way. Once they’re done, fill in the spaces with décor from 1stopbedrooms beds and you have a beautifully designed and organized bookshelf for your home!
Make Homemade Candles
Candles are a timeless and functional décor piece and making them at home is pretty easy and cost-effective! To make candles at home you’ll need:
- Pot
- Hot plate or stovetop
- Wax
- Wick
- Vessel – mason jars work great!
- Scents
- Food coloring
- Popsicle sticks
To make the candle, place the wick into the vessel, heat up the wax until melted and add your coloring and scent, pour the wax into the vessel and allow to harden (use the popsicle sticks to keep the wick standing straight), and trim the wick to your desired length! It’s super simple and makes a great family activity!
